Erik Martens Discusses Jargar Strings' New Evoke Violin String Set

Tell us about the new Jargar  Evoke violin string set.

The Evoke  by Jargar  Strings brings out the essence of the Jargar  sound with a new freshness and power. The Evoke set exhibits a powerful projection with a brilliant sound colour, a high modulation capacity, and a broad sound component. The sound texture is simultaneously fine and dense, which allows for articulation with ease and precision. Add to this a very fast and direct bow response, and you have a set that powers presence.

E: Bow-pressure resistant, direct, and a brilliant sound character.

A: Fast response, direct and brilliant.

D: Direct bow response and an excellent modulation capacity.

G: Powerful sound, rich, with a lot of overtones.

What are the Evoke violin strings’ main characteristics? Which players and instruments (old or new) are they most suitable for?

Power, brilliance, and fast bow response are the three top characteristics of the new Evoke set. If you are looking for a powerful set that is very easy to play it is definitely something for you. A lot of players are today looking for this exact combination and we have had them in mind when we did create the set. We have tested the strings on both old and new instruments and they work equally well on both. If you are looking for a set that tones down the natural brilliance of your instrument this might not be the set for you but you will never know until you have tested it.

Within the Jargar  violin string range, where would you suggest this set sit?

The Evoke set is definitely a top-end set like the Violin Superior set from Jargar  Strings but the bow response is much faster resulting in a very good and effortless playability.

Did you work with musicians to develop this new string set?

All the way through the development process of the Evoke set we were continuously testing the set with musicians to see if our ideas did work as we hoped and expected. We also had in mind the musicians to whom easy playability is very important.

Where are the strings made?

The strings are designed at Jargar  Strings in Denmark but they are made in Austria.

How often do you recommend advanced and professional musicians change their Evoke strings?

The Evoke set will last at least 7-9 weeks and probably even longer but if you want to keep the perfect sound it is recommendable to change every second month and maybe the E string a little more often.

Where can violinists purchase the new string set?

The Evoke set is available from Shar Music but you can always ask your local shop or violin maker to order them from Connolly Music or Gewa US. Worldwide the set is available from the bigger web shops.
